Vancouver lawyer Naeem-ul-Nushad Ahmed has agreed to a one-month suspension for professional misconduct, commencing on February 28, 2025.
Ahmed admitted in a consent agreement that between 2016 and 2018, he provided legal services or used his firm’s trust account over the course of 15 client files in which he failed to make reasonable inquiries regarding several circumstances, including the involvement of a known fraudster in some or all of the files. He also failed to make inquiries about the identity and relationship between clients and other parties, the ownership of certain properties and business entities, and the source of funds passing through his firm’s trust account.
In accepting the consent agreement, the Law Society took into consideration an Agreed Statement of Facts, a letter from Ahmed containing his consent agreement proposal, and the outcomes in prior, similar cases. The Law Society also considered that Ahmed does not have a prior professional conduct record, and that it was responsible for significant delay in its investigation of the matter. Absent this delay, the Law Society would have sought a longer suspension.
