Surrey lawyer Patrick C. Burke suspended for six weeks

Surrey lawyer Patrick C. Burke has received a six-week suspension for professional misconduct. The suspension will commence on July 19, 2024.

Burke admitted that he improperly handled $23,665 received as retainer funds from clients by failing to deposit the trust funds into a pooled trust account, failed to remit GST funds and interest to the Canada Revenue Agency in a timely manner and misled the Law Society by claiming in his Annual Practice Declarations, that his law firm had paid the GST in full and on time when he knew that was un true.

In accepting the consent agreement, the Law Society took into consideration an Agreed Statement of Facts and letter from Burke to the Chair of the Discipline Committee.
