Surrey lawyer Manjit Singh Walia has agreed to pay a fine of $7,500 for professional misconduct.
Walia admitted in a consent agreement that he failed to act honourably while representing a client during a virtual hearing when he displayed for his client’s view, a note containing a response to a question posed by a tribunal member of the Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Walia admitted his actions constitute professional misconduct.
In accepting the consent agreement, the Law Society considered an Agreed Statement of Facts, a letter from Walia containing his consent agreement proposal and the outcomes in prior, similar cases.
