The Bencher by-election results are now available: Christina J. Cook has been elected as Bencher in the July 12, 2023 by-election for the County of Vancouver.
Christina is a litigator and a proud member of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. She is the founder of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch’s Aboriginal Lawyers Forum (ALF), the first forum of its kind in Canada. The ALF works to support and improve the retention of Indigenous legal professionals through networking, mentorship, professional development and opportunities to celebrate Indigenous culture.
Christina was called to the bar in 2010 and is currently in-house counsel doing insurance defence work. Her past experience is broad, including work in the areas of civil litigation and regulatory matters. She has presented at Continuing Legal Education Society of BC (CLEBC) conferences, as well as at the University of British Columbia’s faculty of law and the Thompson Rivers University’s faculty of law. She has also mentored Indigenous law students at UBC and TRU.
Throughout her career, Christina has been an active volunteer in the legal community. She has volunteered with the CBA Women Lawyers Forum, Young Lawyers and Insurance Law section. She is also the former president of the Kamloops Bar Association and past chair of the national Canadian Defence Lawyers’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
