The Law Society of BC is standing with the Filipino community and the victims and witnesses of the horrific attack that occurred during the Lapu-Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver on April 26. This tragic event has left many of us feeling heartbroken and unsettled.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this terrible act of violence. We recognize that members of our legal community and their loved ones may have attended or been involved in the festival, or may know someone who was impacted, and we want to ensure everyone feels supported during this difficult time.
The City of Vancouver website provides a list of community supports and information specific to this mass casualty incident.
In addition, we are reminding lawyers and legal professionals that free, anonymous counselling and other mental-health supports are available 24/7 through TELUS Health One and the Lawyers Assistance Program. Information on how to access those resources, and others, can be found on our Lawyer Well-being Hub.
Let’s stand together in solidarity with the Filipino community and the victims of this unspeakable tragedy. Moments like these remind us of the importance of compassion, kindness, and unity.
