UPDATES SINCE ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE
- May 2, 2018: The Court of Appeal for British Columbia dismisses Perrick's appeal. Perrick will be suspended for 30 days commencing June 4, 2018.
- January 5, 2017: The Review Board dismisses Perrick’s review. Perrick has filed a Notice of Appeal in the Court of Appeal. He has applied for and the Law Society has agreed to a stay of suspension pending the outcome of the appeal.
- November 30, 2015: A stay of suspension has been granted on conditions, being that the stay will terminate upon:
- a) the Applicant’s review being discontinued or abandoned by the Applicant;
- b) the Applicant’s review being dismissed by the Review Board;
- c) further order of the Review Board; or
- d) May 31, 2016,
- whichever event occurs first.
- October 23, 2015: On October 8, 2015,Perrick served a Notice of Review pursuant to s. 47 of the Legal Profession Act.
Vancouver, September 15, 2015 – The Law Society sets standards of professional responsibility for BC lawyers and articled students, and upholds those standards through a complaints and discipline process. These standards and processes are important to maintain public confidence and trust in lawyers. Accordingly, the Law Society has ordered that lawyer Ronald Perrick of North Vancouver be suspended for professional misconduct.
The proven misconduct relates to Perrick’s representation of a client in matters arising from two motor vehicle accidents, one in 2002 and the other in 2004. Perrick admitted to professional misconduct for failing to serve his client in a conscientious, diligent and efficient manner, as well as for failing to reply reasonably promptly to correspondence from opposing counsel.
In issuing the suspension, the hearing panel took into consideration a prior record that they considered serious related to proven misconduct similar to the current findings of professional misconduct.
The hearing panel ordered Perrick to serve a 30-day suspension to start December 1, 2015, and to pay costs of $19,315.81.
