Before proceeding, please review the possible reasons for denial of name:
The name is identical with that for which another applicant has made prior application under Part 9 of the Law Society Rules;
The name so nearly resembles the name for which another applicant has made prior application under Part 9 of the Law Society Rules, that it is likely to confuse or mislead the public.
The name contravenes Chapter 4, Rule 4.2-5 of the Code of Professional Conduct for BC (“Marketing of Legal Services”).
Law business names can have a geographical location component, which might equally describe many firms or businesses, so long as the name also includes a sufficiently distinctive component that makes the business name as a whole unique. Please note that included references such as 'lawyers', 'law group', 'law practice', 'legal services', 'law corporation', 'associates', 'partners' and combinations or variations of such references, or other terms of similar effect do not function as, and are not sufficient for, the necessary distinctive component in a law business name.
See Annotations in Chapter 4 of the Code of Conduct for BC for more details.
