The Law Society of BC is seeking a permanent, full-time, Support Technician in our Information Services department. The Support Technician is responsible for providing timely, effective first-level technical support to Law Society staff and, with other Information Services staff, for the efficient identification and resolution of technical problems with the Law Society’s information technology.

The duties of the position include:              

  • Building and testing software deployment packages as well as maintaining updates for applications, mobile devices and device applications, network switches, and Wi-Fi access points.
  • Communicating with vendor’s technical support to diagnose and resolve computer, network, and telecommunications hardware and software issues.
  • Creating and maintaining objects in a Microsoft Active Directory environment and underlying services; DHCP and GPO.
  • Defining and managing firewall policies: familiar with Windows Firewall; Sophos UTM; and Cisco ASA.
  • Deploying, moving, and securely disposing of computers, mobile devices, and telecommunications equipment including peripherals.
  • Developing and maintaining IT helpdesk documents and for other systems as needed.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining desktops, PC thin clients, and laptop computers, network switches, mobile devices, phones, and related peripherals.
  • Maintaining software and hardware inventories for equipment management and ensuring the Law Society is in compliance with licenses, reporting if anomalies are found.
  • Management and deployment of VMware Horizon VDI environment, including building and maintaining virtual desktops; provisioning; and application images.
  • Performing system backup and restores.
  • Providing front-line technical support for desktop computers and VMware Horizon VDI, meeting software primarily MS-Teams and Zoom, mobile devices, printers, and Cisco VPN and VoIP.
  • Researching products and solutions, and resolving issues as directed by the Assistant Network Manager or Network Manager.
  • Supporting applications including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and OpenText eDOCS.
  • Such duties as the Assistant Network Manager or Network Manager may require.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) year diploma in computer science or related field, or three (3) years verifiable equivalent work experience and applicable certifications.
  • Knowledge of installing, configuring, and maintaining Microsoft Windows OS. Understanding of Anti-virus, Apple iOS, Linux, remote desktop and helpdesk, MDM, and VMware (ESXi, vCentre, and Horizon VDI) applications.
  • A working understanding of a Microsoft Windows networked environment, including Active Directory, MS-Exchange, and Group Policies, and TCP/IP.
  • Familiar with Cisco VoIP and a wide range of desktop applications; particularly Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and OpenText eDOCS.
  • Experience using imaging software and Sysprep, the Windows Update Service (WSUS), VMware Horizon VDI, and associated system utilities.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems and convey solutions in non-technical terms.
  • Physical ability to move phones, computers, and related peripherals.

The salary range for this position is $57,721 to $62,740.
