The Law Society of BC is seeking a permanent, part-time, Assistant in our Information & Privacy department. In the Information & Privacy group, the Assistant will provide clerical support to the Information & Privacy Officer, Freedom of Information Analyst, and the Privacy Compliance Officer in relation to the processing of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“FIPPA”) requests for records and other work related to the Law Society’s compliance with FIPPA.
The duties of the position include:
- Opening, maintaining and closing files.
- Responding to internal and external inquiries.
- Locating, obtaining, photocopying or scanning and returning records.
- Providing administrative support for the Information and Privacy Officer, the Privacy Compliance Officer, and the Freedom of Information (FOI) Analyst.
- Filing electronic documents for the department.
- Drafting correspondence and coordinating outgoing materials via email, secure file transfer, mail or courier.
- Other duties as the Manager, Privacy, Records & Information Management and Chief Operating Officer may require.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent work experience.
- 1-2 years of law office experience.
- Experience supporting privacy and access to information staff.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and experience maintaining file records using an Electronic Document Records Management System (EDRMS).
- Working knowledge of British Columbia’s privacy legislation and its application.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail with well-developed time management and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- The ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds and complete large volume scanning projects.
The salary range for this position is $25,573 to $27,796.
