PLTC Instructor (18-Month Term)

Our Professional Development department is seeking a temporary, full-time Professional Legal Training Course Instructor for an 18-month term starting May 5, 2025. PLTC is a 10-week course conducted remotely using virtual classrooms and held three times a year in the Spring (February start), Summer (May start), and Fall (September start). Reporting to the Director of Professional Development, the PLTC Instructor is responsible for teaching, assessing and grading candidates’ competence in entry-level skills and assisting with curriculum and other PLTC program development. 

The duties of this position include:
  • Teaching the PLTC curriculum to an online class of 22-24 students, including grading and providing feedback on class assignments and working with guest instructors. 
  • Conducting, reviewing, and grading skills assessments in four core areas.
  • Marking two qualification exams covering barristers’ work and solicitors’ work.  
  • Assisting with curriculum development, including creating and updating lesson plans, exercises, assignments, assessments, and examinations.
  • Such other duties as the Director of Professional Development may require.
Qualifications:
  • An LL.B or JD and a minimum of five years of relevant and current practice experience.
  • Experience teaching and assessing legal knowledge and skills. 
  • Superior writing skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools and experience using online learning platforms, virtual classroom tools and other software required to carry out the duties remotely as needed.

The terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the Law Society of BC and the Professional Employees Association apply to this position. 

The salary range for this position is $138,405.92 to $167,715.88. We also offer an excellent benefits package that includes extended health benefits, a dental plan and more. 

This position is based at the Law Society of British Columbia office at 845 Cambie Street in the Yaletown area of Vancouver. The Law Society follows a hybrid work structure where employees are required to work a combination of remote and in-office days based on the task and department operational requirements. We value a healthy work-life balance and currently offer a 35-hour work week with a hybrid schedule of three days on-site and two days remote. This hybrid work arrangement may be modified depending on your availability and interest in working on-site.
