The Law Society of BC is seeking a permanent, full-time Hearing Clerk in our Tribunal department. The Hearing Clerk, Tribunal is responsible for the administration of the hearing process, provides support to the Adjudicators, Tribunal Counsel and the Tribunal Chair as needed, and maintains the Tribunal pages on the Law Society website.

The duties of this position include:        

  • Acting as hearing clerk at pre-hearing conferences and hearings on the merits including organizing prehearing and hearing materials, preparing chambers lists, entering and maintaining exhibits, drafting orders, retaining court reporter, updating website, setting up and managing zoom hearings and sync electronic document folders.
  • Opening, maintaining, and closing of Discipline and Credentials hearing and exhibit files.
  • Maintaining the Tribunal database and website.
  • Maintaining hearing statistics.
  • Producing and delivering hearing notices pursuant to the Law Society Rules.
  • Providing administrative support to adjudicators, the Tribunal Chair and Tribunal Counsel as required.
  • Assisting in preparing and issuing hearing decisions, including copy editing as needed.
  • Coordinating education sessions for adjudicators.
  • Such other duties as Tribunal Counsel or Tribunal Chair may require.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience in legal assistant or paralegal program. 
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a legal or other professional environment. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows 13. 
  • Familiarity with Zoom and Sync an asset.

The salary range for this position is $57,721 to $62,740.
